The exhibition presents three works by Bernardino Luini - one of the most subtle followers of Leonardo da Vinci and a master of the Lombard school of the Renaissance. The exhibition introduces the art of Bernardino Luini - an artist whose work embodies the spiritual poetics of the Northern Renaissance and continues the traditions of Leonardo da Vinci. The display features three paintings by the master from the collection of the Hermitage: "Saint Sebastian," "Saint Catherine," and "Crucifixion with Madonna, Saints Paul, Mary Magdalene, John, and Francis." The first two works have recently undergone restoration and will be presented for the first time in their updated form. Thanks to the removal of old varnish, viewers will be able to appreciate the soft chiaroscuro and refined painting style of Luini, which is rooted in the technique of da Vinci. The "Crucifixion," on the other hand, is shown without restoration - for comparison with the restored works. The project continues the long-term research of the school of Leonardo da Vinci conducted at the Hermitage. It reflects the unique role of the museum in preserving and studying the heritage of the Renaissance, demonstrating how modern scientific and restoration methods help to restore the paintings to their authentic resonance.
