The exhibition opens a jubilee cycle dedicated to Alexander Ivanov. The focus is on watercolor sheets in which Gospel and Old Testament themes gain freedom and internal tension. At the heart of the exhibition is a cycle that Alexander Ivanov worked on in the last years of his life, contemplating a large-scale system of murals for his envisioned "Temple of Art" or "Temple of Wisdom." The displayed sheets are related to the Annunciations, prophecies, the birth of John the Baptist, and the childhood of Jesus Christ. Alongside the Gospel scenes, Old Testament themes emerge, and the connections between them help to feel how complex and thought-out the structure of the cycle was. The manner of execution gives the works a special strength. The watercolor sketches are painted freely and sharply.
