The retrospective showcases Sergey Bugayev as a figure where art, cinema, music, and the spirit of Leningrad's underground converge. The exhibition gathers works from different years and archival materials, allowing viewers to see how his visual language has evolved. Sergey Bugayev has entered history as one of the most prominent participants in the art scene of the 1980s and 1990s. His biography resembles a map of the era: the union "New Artists", the role of "Banana Boy" in the film "Assa", drumming in the band "Kino", performances with Sergey Kuryokhin's "Pop Mechanics", and working alongside Timur Novikov. In this circle, art easily transitioned into music, cinema into performance, and friendly communities became part of cultural mythology. The exhibition traces the artist's journey over four decades. Paintings, installations, objects, textile panels, and photographs come together to form the image of an artist who does not settle on one form. His works reflect an interest in Russian avant-garde, play with signs, and inner freedom. A special place is held by the series "Rebus" - conceptual compositions of symbols and images burned onto copper plates. These works are connected to a major theme in the master's creativity: the search for a language where meaning arises through the combination of signs, associations, and cultural references.
