The "Phoenix" book club will start the autumn with the science fiction of Kir Bulychev. Participants will discuss the novel "The Settlement", its place in the conditional cycle about Vladislav Pavlysh, and the animated film "The Pass" based on the first part of the book. The name of Kir Bulychev is primarily associated with the stories about Alisa Selezneva for many, but his work is much broader. Guests of the book club will turn to the novel about people who find themselves in a world where technologies are not always capable of solving even simple tasks. It is a story in which science fiction becomes a way to talk about survival, responsibility, and human ingenuity. The novel is part of a conditional cycle about the biologist Vladislav Pavlysh. However, it is not necessary to read the previous works: there is no strong plot connection between them. One can discuss the book as an independent work while simultaneously seeing what place it occupies in Bulychev's authorial world. A separate topic will be the first part of the novel - "The Pass". In 1988, it received an animated adaptation, which the writer himself did not like. Participants will be able to compare the literary text and the animated film, think about what changed when transferring the story to the screen, and how successfully the visual version conveys the tone of the novel.
