Perrault's tale "Blue Beard" will serve as material for careful reading. Participants will read the text from the 1902 edition, translate difficult fragments, discuss grammar and vocabulary, and see how the tale changes in translation to Russian. Perrault's collection "Mother Goose Tales" was published in 1697 and includes tales such as "Sleeping Beauty," "Little Red Riding Hood," "Puss in Boots," and "Blue Beard," with Mother Goose as the storyteller through whom the stories are conveyed to the reader. Familiar to everyone from childhood in our country, they sound quite different in the original: their text is filled with linguistic details that get lost in translation. In the meeting, participants will read "Blue Beard" in French from the 1902 edition and analyze the text in detail - from individual words and grammatical constructions to ways of describing characters. Slow reading implies careful work with the work without racing for the number of pages. Each fragment becomes an opportunity to stop, clarify the meaning of an expression, notice an unusual construction, or compare several translation options. Special attention will be given to the plot and character characteristics. Participants will trace how Perrault creates the images of the heroes and then discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the Russian translations. This will allow them to view the well-known fairy tale both as a literary work and as material for language study. The meeting will be useful for those who already know French at about an A2 level and want to expand their vocabulary, understand grammar more confidently, and get used to reading unadapted texts.
