A reading meeting for everyone who wants to learn more about Shakespearean theater. Participants will discuss the play in which the hero becomes a hostage to others' ambitions, and every line breathes drama and conflict. Why is the image of Coriolanus so ambiguous? Some interpret him as a soulless careerist, while others see him as a person whose weaknesses and principles tear him apart from within. The meeting will be led by Evgenia Gulbis, a philologist and expert on British theater, who will help clarify these and other questions. Participants will also see video clips from famous performances and film adaptations, including a monologue performed by Laurence Olivier, discuss the connections between the text and the political realities of the 17th century, and try to find parallels with the present.
