At the meeting with Alexey Myakyshev, the discussion will focus on documentary photography as a way to see the country without noise and haste. The occasion will be the presentation of Myakyshev's fourth photo book "Northern Side." Alexey Myakyshev is known for his long-term, multi-year projects. His shots have been published in "Russian Newsweek" and "Kommersant," Finnish Helsingin Sanomat, APU, Talouselämä; he is a laureate of Interphoto, Bestphotographer, The Best of Russia, Sony World Photography Awards, and a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The photographer's works are held in museum and private collections. He will talk about how "Northern Side" was created, why the book is the best storyteller of quiet stories, what series editing is, and how a good photograph differs from a lucky shot. The discussion will also cover technique: what light to look for; when a tripod hinders and when it helps; what is more important - optics or the route.
