About

Together with curator Natalia Udarceva, club participants will explore where the boundary lies between a self-portrait and a selfie. It seems that a self-portrait and a selfie are the same: a person takes a camera, points it at themselves, and shows the world their image. However, behind the external similarity lie different artistic tasks, different ways of seeing oneself, and different relationships with the viewer. This meeting is dedicated to the fine line between the two genres. Participants will discuss the role of the self-portrait in the history of visual art and why it often becomes not a fixation of appearance, but a way to explore personality. A selfie lives by a different logic: it is a reaction to the moment, mood, social situation, an expression of the desire to be noticed or to engage in dialogue here and now. The conversation will be led by Natalia Udarceva - curator and author of the "Photo Wednesday" program, journalist, researcher, and photography teacher.
