About

Guests of the reading club will analyze one of the most famous novels by Herbert Wells. Wells wrote the novel "The Invisible Man" at the beginning of his literary career. After the success of "The Time Machine," he was perceived as a scientist who could write, but the next book solidified his reputation as a writer capable of combining a fantastic idea with precise observation of humanity. Listeners will learn which literary texts might have inspired the author’s motif of invisibility, how the work was published, and why contemporaries particularly valued the persuasiveness of the scientific foundation. A separate part of the conversation will be dedicated to how the perception of the book has changed. The hosts will touch on the responses of contemporaries, Wells' visits to the USSR, and various screen adaptations of the story - from the British television version to the Soviet adaptation, which significantly altered the original plot. The hosts are Daniil Ryasov and Svetlana Panchenko. Where to go with a child in Moscow, look for on our website.
