Irkutsk became an important point in the fate of the Decembrists - exiled nobles, officers, and their families. The meeting is dedicated to the role of the city in the lives of the uprising participants, their social activities, and the cultural heritage that has survived to this day. Two centuries after the Decembrist uprising, interest in their fates and ideas remains strong. A special place in this history is occupied by Irkutsk - a Siberian city that became not only a place of exile but also a kind of second home for many participants of the 1825 uprising. For nearly 30 years, about 40 Decembrists sentenced to eternal settlement lived here. They were educated, influential people: officers, aristocrats, public figures. Many of them not only served their sentences but also actively participated in the cultural and social life of the region. Particular attention will be paid to the legacy left by the Decembrists: churches, monasteries, burial sites, memorial complexes, and monuments. Today, Irkutsk preserves this memory in the form of a Historical and Memorial Complex, which includes over 40 objects. The meeting is organized by the Decembrist Commission and will be especially interesting for those interested in history, cultural memory, Moscow studies, and the biographies of prominent figures.
