About

A new choreographic interpretation of a classical work, filled with modern spirit and romanticism. A story that is already 170 years old. At its center is the fate of a peasant girl who became a wili and preserved her sincere feelings for her beloved. Before the audience of the Moscow Academic Musical Theatre, Jean Coralli, Jules Perrot, and Marius Petipa presented the premiere of the ancient ballet "Giselle" on March 23, 1991, a ballet with one of the most enchanting and fantastic stories. It is no coincidence that it is particularly noted in the genre category, namely, as a fantastic ballet. The special contrast of the dance narrative of such an unusual love story lies in the division between the real world and the sensual world. The guiding principle of Giselle's life (Diana Vishneva), her special passion, becomes the dream of eternal and beautiful love. Her nature is expressive, and she conveys her feelings through dance (as written in the libretto by T. Gautier and J. Saint-Georges). The artistry and element of masquerade are embodied in the image of Count Albert (Sergei Polunin), who, although he transforms into a commoner, does not deviate from the image of an impetuous, thoughtful young man. Commanding gestures, an authoritative and haughty manner of self-presentation somewhat reveal to the audience the hidden hero, his secret. Sensuality is the main element that distinguishes this production from many others. Every mood, every emotional outburst is conveyed with sincere precision through the gestures, facial expressions, and poses of the ballet artists. This is both the euphoria of Giselle from her first meeting with Albert and the loss of trust in her beloved after his revealed betrayal. When Giselle appears in the guise of a wili - a bride who died before her wedding - the ghost of her soul is revived before the audience thanks to the technical performance of the ballerina, who quickly spins on the heel of one foot in an arabesque pose. This moment symbolizes the transition from grave silence to the mystical activity of the heroine. Giselle's dance gift becomes her tool in the murder of night passersby. Cruelty and mercy,
