The author does not talk about a wedding, a celebration, but about marriage - a social event that requires everything to be foreseen. The play is dedicated to matchmaking, acquaintance, choice - processes that are painful and torturous for Gogol himself, as all this may lead to nothing. The play examines everything except the one thing that truly matters - the love between a man and a woman. Director Evgeny Marcelli invites us to discuss why the wedding never happened, and whether Podkolyosin's act was so tragic and unexpected for his surroundings and, most importantly, for the bride.
