A play based on the works of Mikhail Bulgakov, using excerpts from the book "The Actor's Work on Himself" and rehearsal materials of Stanislavsky. The director of the play, Sergey Zhenovach, presented an original take on Bulgakov's "Theatrical Novel." The genre is defined as a "stage composition," meaning it is an original work on the theme of the classic's piece. The basis for the play, in addition to the mentioned novel, includes drafts, sketches, early notes ("To a Secret Friend," "It Was May," "I Dreamed a Dream..."), the initial version of the novel "The White Guard," which later became "Days of the Turbins," and other materials. The theater decided to follow Bulgakov's original idea and develop the theme of the relationship between a budding playwright and the established theater collective. The actors of STI visited Bulgakov's house-museum, continuing the theater's tradition of getting acquainted with the native places of playwrights and writers whose works are staged.
