The cult rock opera by Mark Zakharov, Alexey Rybnikov, and Andrey Voznesensky is a careful reconstruction of the legendary production directed by Dmitry Pevtsov and Viktor Rakov. "Juno and Avos" is undoubtedly the most famous of Russian musicals. A driving and, at the same time, deeply lyrical story about love and separation, based on a true story, was first presented to the public on the stage of "Lenkom" in 1981. The phenomenal success of the rock opera was ensured by Mark Zakharov's unique staging style, the unity of Alexey Rybnikov's music and Andrey Voznesensky's poetry, as well as the charisma of Nikolai Karachentsov, who for many years was the unchanging performer of the lead role. Today's updated version of the play is an attempt, despite the circumstances, to preserve its essence. To prove to the audience, who have been in love with Ryazanov-Karachentsov for decades, the validity of the cult image in a new incarnation. Since 2005, the lead role in the production has been played alternately by Viktor Rakov and Dmitry Pevtsov. They also took on the direction, carefully embodying Zakharov's staging idea on stage. And today "Juno and Avos" - despite all the "cast reshuffles" - is exactly the spectacle that the audience expects to see: a modern opera that is stunning in its power and emotionality, which will forever remain a classic of world theater.
