His play "I Am Not Pan Jinlian" contains much that is purely Chinese, yet it will still be understood by every viewer. Pan Jinlian is a Chinese archetype of a cunning, malicious, and adulterous woman. In an attempt to circumvent the law on birth control, the main character Li Xuelian finds herself in a situation where everything turns against her. Now she must prove that she is not Pan Jinlian, and she is ready to fight for that until the end. The play tells of strong human emotions and a complicated fate, but it turned out to be very funny: with colorful costumes, folk instruments, and actor tricks.
