W. A. Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute" directed by Alexander Titel is an unusual interpretation of the classical work, featuring students from GITIS. The youthful atmosphere of the backstage is magically conveyed to the auditorium, transforming the production from an academic spectacle into an almost entertaining one. At first, "The Magic Flute" may seem like a frivolous fairy-tale opera, where good triumphs over evil, love over treachery, and friendship over enmity. However, this musical piece, which became W. A. Mozart's last opera, is the result of profound philosophical reflections. Some musicologists assert that the composer, in no small measure, aimed at state ideas in his work, and the world he created is nothing less than a model of a just state. The wise magician Sarastro embodies the forces of good, while the cunning Queen of the Night represents evil. Between the realms of light and darkness wanders Tamino - an ordinary man who seeks the truth, moving towards it through trials. Alexander Titel, taking the original source as a basis for his experiments, reshaped the characters of the heroes in a modern way. The action was transferred to a 21st-century school, which facilitated the understanding of the classical libretto while simultaneously adding amusing moments and interesting twists to the opera. One thing remained unchanged - to become happy, one must undergo many trials, without losing faith, the ability to love, and not forgetting to be loyal and patient. This Mozartian postulate runs like a red thread throughout the entire performance.
