The plays of contemporary French author Gérald Sibleyras are little known in our country, and the Vakhtangov Theater, following the Satirikon, takes on the task of filling this gap. The comedy "The Wind Rustles in the Poplars" is a recipient of the Laurence Olivier Award. It is filled with virtuoso, witty dialogues, magnificent humor, philosophical notes, and provocations. Its characters are ambitious and eccentric, self-ironic, and naively dreamy. Three residents of a retirement home, played by young actors Vladimir Vdovichenkov, Maxim Sukhanov, and Vladimir Simonov, spend time together every day, discussing the news, joking, and planning outrageous antics. Each of them has something from their past, and now, being far from young, they continue to enjoy life, not despairing and only mentioning old-age rheumatism to make light of it. Self-irony becomes a defining quality for the characters of the comedy. They enjoy life in endless arguments with each other, dreaming of the unattainable and meeting on the terrace, like Beckett's characters - by a withered tree, realizing that nothing awaits them ahead but eternity. The play is directed by Rimas Tuminas, who, together with the artists, created a magnificent picturesque-graphic canvas that becomes a separate world, living its own life.
