The director of the play "Warsaw Melody" is Sergey Shchipitsin, a student of Lev Dodin. The young author still inherits the master's style, but does so with dignity and professionalism. The production does not get lost among other MDT performances. Gelya and Viktor, the main characters of "Warsaw Melody," do not run away from reality. They create their alternative reality in which they feel comfortable living and loving. Music for them is a complete world, perfect and rich, saving and merciful. But the reality of the two cannot withstand the external world. Especially when it comes to the harsh reality of a state that seeks to absorb and dehumanize people. The external world is ruled not by beauty and harmony, but by laws that are often inhumane. But "Warsaw Melody" is not a story of struggle and confrontation. The play has no tragedy, only sadness about lost illusions and dreams. The heroes accept the rules of the game and the life imposed on them, which turns out to be not so bad. They are successful, settled. But was such an existence worth the world they left behind? The play is accompanied by music by Chopin, Mark Fradkin, and Heinrich Vars, as well as songs based on the poems of Julian Tuvim and Evgeny Dolmatovsky. The stage design was inspired by the late David Borovsky - an artist who created stunning sets for many MDT productions.
