"To Moscow, let’s hurry to Moscow!". This phrase was key for the heroines of Chekhov's "Three Sisters", and it became a literal call for all theater lovers: Galina Volchek - the artistic director of the Theater "Sovremennik" - has once again staged Anton Pavlovich's drama. Volchek's first vision was seen by the theatrical world in the early eighties, while the new interpretation was included in the premiere season of "Sovremennik" in February 2001. As it was a quarter of a century ago, the production of the play "Three Sisters" is centered on two characters: Masha (Alena Babenko) and Vershinin (Vladislav Vetrov). In the first act, full of optimism and hopes, those gathered in the Prozorov house succumb to the general joyful mood: the sisters eagerly await their chance to leave for Moscow, Kulygin (Sergey Yushkevich) engages in pleasant conversation with everyone present, and Lieutenant Tuzenbach (Ivan Stebunov) prophesies a new time that will not be long in coming, which will "blow away from society laziness, indifference, prejudice towards work, and rotten boredom". The second act not only turns the words of the hero Ivan Stebunov upside down: it mocks them, twisting the characters and their lives in an absolutely polar direction. Unable to find his place from boredom, Andrei (Ilya Drevnov), disappointed in her husband Masha, burdened by her work at the telegraph Irina, and tired of everything around her Olga (Olga Drozdova). On stage, Galina Volchek brought to life the crumbling hopes of the sisters for a new life. Dull events, muted emotions, that do not break free but destroy the light of the soul from within. The sisters, close by blood, become distant from each other, they cease to listen to those who, it seems, are not indifferent to them. The essence of the tragedy of the relationships between Olga, Irina, Masha, and all of Chekhov's characters lies in the egocentrism that has killed all mercy, all compassion, all love and hope. Vershinin still insists, stubbornly knocking on the tightly locked souls of those around him, that everything will still change. And then he again crosses out his words with teachings about constant work.
