About

A musical production inspired by the famous English play tells the story of a world where criminals become folk heroes, and conventional notions of good and evil lose their meaning. The story is accompanied by the music of Kurt Weill, satire, and a carnival atmosphere. The basis of the play is John Gay's "The Beggar's Opera." The main inspiration for the creators was the image of the legendary English criminal Jack Sheppard, who became so famous in the 18th century that he became a hero of folk songs and urban legends. His traits can be seen in the character of Macheath. Audiences will see a world where the boundary between law and crime nearly disappears. Here, conventional notions of good and evil are turned upside down, and human vices become the subject of sharp satire. The play combines ballads, popular melodies, and operatic motifs. The composer is Kurt Weill. Director Alexey Frandetti emphasizes the bright carnival atmosphere of the action, transforming what happens into an unusual musical fairy tale that is born anew each time. The theatrical poster of St. Petersburg is presented on KUDAGO.
