A very personal and poignant play by Alexander Vampilov directed by Anatoly Shulyev. Vampilov lived only 34 years and wrote four plays, but he entered history as one of the greatest playwrights of the 20th century. The play "The Elder Son" is characterized by penetrating and deep images of the characters, especially the father of the family, Sarafanov. Once brilliantly portrayed on screen by Yevgeny Leonov, this role is now played on the stage of "Mayakovka" by the People's Artist of Russia Igor Kostolevsky. The plot of the comedy appears as an absurd coincidence: two students, while seeing off their girlfriends, missed the last train to the city and, in search of a place to stay, knocked on the first house they came across. Student Busygin introduced himself as the illegitimate son of the owner, come to visit his father. But soon, strong feelings flare up between the impostor and the household members, so much so that even the revealed deception cannot extinguish them. This is a sad and funny play about how a person in search of a place to stay found something greater - a home and a family. See more plays on our website in the theater section.
