One of the most discussed and provocative directors in the country, Konstantin Bogomolov, presents a "Stalinist musical" based on the eponymous play by Viktor Gusev. Bogomolov staged the play for the first time on the BDT stage. The basis of the production is a poetic play by the Stalin-era poet Viktor Gusev, which he, according to his words, had been "carrying" since his studies at GITIS. However, wherever he proposed it, he faced rejection. Only the artistic director of BDT, Andrey Moguchiy, gave the play the green light. Despite the fact that the play was written in the 1930s and was performed in almost all theaters in the country at that time, it is essentially non-ideological and relevant even now. The author somehow managed to integrate into the ideology and be accepted by it, but at the same time to write about something completely different - about other thoughts and feelings, about humanism. The characters of the play are two engineers at the construction of a hydroelectric power station. One simply works, while the other dreams of a feat for which he is ready to pay with his life. And the second one loses here. The play with the pompous title actually destroys this pomposity.
