People's Artist of Russia Sergei Makovetsky will perform a monologue based on stories by Anton Chekhov with the participation of a quartet of musicians. Comic and serious, ironic and sad will intertwine on stage, as it happens in life. In the first part, Sergei Makovetsky will read the story "The Violin of Rothschild". Its hero, the gloomy undertaker Yakov, lives as if he does not notice anything and anyone around him. It seems that he has become embittered and has forgotten how to empathize, but in fact, behind his unsociable exterior lies something entirely different. In 1996, Sergei Makovetsky played Dmitri Shostakovich in the film "The Violin of Rothschild" produced in France. The film is dedicated to the history of the creation of the opera of the same name, which was worked on by Shostakovich's student, Veniamin Fleischman. However, soon the war began, Fleischman volunteered for the front and perished. Shostakovich completed the opera. In the second part of the performance, three stories will be presented: "On Transience", "Flute and Double Bass", and "Forgotten". What unites them is that their heroes are somehow connected to music. First, His Excellency Pantikin, preparing for dinner, hums a romance. Then two musicians from the orchestra cannot get along in a rented apartment. And a not wealthy landowner wants to buy sheet music for his daughter but forgot which ones she asked for. Alongside Sergei Makovetsky on stage is a quartet consisting of flute, double bass, violin, and piano. The performance is accompanied by excerpts from works by Georges Bizet, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Camille Saint-Saëns, Franz Liszt, Veniamin Fleischman, and other composers.
