An ironic and kind play based on the story by Oleg Zayontchkovsky. The play "Sergeyev and the Town" is a stage version of the eponymous story by Oleg Zayontchkovsky, a Russian prose writer and descendant of an ancient noble family. The book consists of eight chapters-novellas dedicated to the life of a small town that exists outside of time, in the generalized space of "always." The characters of the story and the play inhabit a side away from the big world and great deeds. They are small people, so different and so alike at the same time, funny and absurd, peaceful and quarrelsome, passionate and calm. They live their lives, full of sorrows and joys, genuine feelings and idiotic misunderstandings, diversifying their everyday life with friendly gatherings that often end in brawls. Standing apart from all other inhabitants of the town is Sergeyev - a clueless and shy romantic, a quirky writer who becomes the "chronicler" of the industrial province. It is he who unites several stories into a coherent narrative about the simple existence of people who have come to terms with the fact that one day they will become organic fertilizer.
