There are many performances of "The Nutcracker"; they are associated with the New Year, delighting audiences... and completely overshadowing the true story written by Hoffmann. Vitaly Lubsky's performance brings viewers back to the original source - much more interesting and profound than is commonly believed. The brilliant, yet distant from the original, ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, pop culture, and New Year’s decorations have distorted our perception of Hoffmann's tale. Yet his "The Nutcracker" is a complex work where plots twist within other plots, the world of mice resembles real states, and the world of humans is far less sympathetic than in the ballet. The main character of the tale is the wizard Drosselmeyer, who carries mysterious stories in his chest, along with a remedy for evil. Together with young Marie, the audience will venture into the kingdom of mice to defeat dark sorcery and once again believe that good will triumph. It will be interesting for both children and adults, as the tale of treachery and justice, overcoming obstacles and victories is needed by audiences of all ages, not just during the New Year.
