Director Marina Brusnikina assembled this play "on the knee" from two stories by Viktor Astafyev - namely "The Migratory Goose" and "Grandmother's Holiday." Periodically, the play was shown at off-hours "for insiders," meaning the production was not intended for the general public at all. The decorations are fitting - there are simply none, and the costumes are black sweaters. The post-war haze has passed, and those who won the victory have been left on the sidelines of life. In one happy family, where they waited for the husband and father, first the child dies, then - the father, and the unfortunate mother has nothing left but to tighten the noose around her neck. The second part, based on "Grandmother's Holiday," is slightly brighter, but it also turns out to be the last bright flash before a plunge into nothingness. The artists, like pieces of one large mosaic, reveal the essence of the story to the audience, tossing roles to each other like pebbles. The production leaves a feeling of orderly structure emerging from chaos. Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov, who happened to be at one of the "insider" viewings, immediately included the play in the repertoire.
