About

A play about dacha life in an era of upheaval based on the script by Anna Kozlova "Kuokkala". The story shows how the familiar way of life gradually gives way to anxiety and a sense of change. Kuokkala is the old name of the resort village Repino near St. Petersburg. In the early 20th century, it was a popular dacha destination. The play describes summer evenings reminiscent of Chekhov's works. At the dacha, the main character Anna, her husband who has suddenly returned from the front, their son, a neighbor-doctor, relatives, and servants gather. Their everyday life is filled with conversations about the future of the country, reading, philosophical debates, and entertainment. One day they hold a reading competition, and when the discussion about literature heats up too much, they decide to tell fortunes with cards. The attempt to lighten the mood turns into grim predictions related to the fates of Sergei Yesenin, Nikolai Gumilev, Ivan Bunin, Osip Mandelstam, and Vladimir Mayakovsky. The production by Danila Chashchin is based on Anna Kozlova's script "Kuokkala". The action takes place during World War I. The work on the play included a trip to Repino to more accurately convey the atmosphere of dacha life at the beginning of the last century. The theatrical poster of Moscow is presented on KUDAGO.
