A lyrical phantasmagoria based on "The Tales of Belkin" by A.S. Pushkin. A profoundly lyrical puppet show based on Pushkin's stories "The Stationmaster" and "The Blizzard" was staged by the current head of the BPT, Ruslan Kudashov, in memory of the previous head: he dedicated the production to the legendary artistic director of the BPT, Viktor Sudarushkin. Sudarushkin was rightly called "the best puppeteer on the planet": he, who took over the theater at the age of 28 (an unprecedented youth for an artistic director of a Soviet theater!), made it so that the BPT was known throughout the Union and abroad. His performances, which won awards at theater festivals, are still - decades later! - successfully presented on the theater's stage. The characters of "The Tales of Belkin" are played by marionettes: complex, yet light and beautiful, as if living their own lives. By the way, the puppets here have a portrait resemblance to the actors, whom Kudashov intentionally did not hide: they are right here, in plain sight, and between them and the puppets, their own relationships arise, adding additional meanings to the performance. The production turned out to be profoundly sad, but the ending, despite the tragedy, leaves a certain bright hope.
