A masterpiece by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky directed by Alexander Titel. The plot of Pushkin's work was suggested to Tchaikovsky by his brother Modest Ilyich. Initially, the composer showed no interest, but then became fascinated and created the piano score of the opera in a very short time - in 44 days. The work on the opera took place in Florence, where Tchaikovsky went specifically to write it. The libretto, written by Modest Tchaikovsky, differs significantly from the original. In Pushkin's story, the action takes place during the reign of Alexander I, while in the opera - during the time of Catherine the Great; Lisa in the opera is the granddaughter of the countess, not her ward, and Count Tomsky also became her grandson, although in Pushkin's version he is not related to her. The ending of the work has also changed - the characters of the opera die, while in the original Herman ends up in a psychiatric hospital, and Lisa marries quite successfully. This is far from a complete list of external differences, and there are just as many in the interpretation of the inner world and character of the heroes. The opera "The Queen of Spades" is a masterpiece of musical realism, a tragedy that psychologically conveys the feelings, thoughts, and states of the characters, as well as a picture of the era.
