The play, written by Slobodzianek in 2008, aims to comprehend the painful lessons of history. All the characters have real prototypes, and the events described by the playwright actually took place in the Polish town of Jedwabne. The author creates not an indifferent chronicle, but fights for humanity. He is deeply troubled by the eternal problems of human society. At all times and everywhere, when people are squeezed by the ring of dictatorship, they cease to be human, spreading malice out of horror and losing the ability to live normally. Director Natalia Kovaleva believes that the difficult lessons of history should be conveyed through the means of theater, effective due to their visuality and simplicity.
