Ostrovsky's comedy about how to break into the "high society" - a guide that is often used even today. How can a young man make his way into society? Attach himself to the "right" person, flatter him, enter his circle of acquaintances, secure a profitable position, and ultimately, marry advantageously. The "elite," in turn, is happy to fall for flattery, and everyone plays the role assigned to them. The young man Glumov knows how to please everyone: he convinces one that he is a talented writer, while giving another the feeling of youth. But this path is very slippery and dangerous.
