Nikita Kobalev has returned one of the key plays of the 20th century to the repertoire of the Alexandrinsky. Gorky's play "At the Bottom" was staged at the Alexandrinsky in 1919 and 1956, with a revival in 1973. Nikita Kobalev presents the third production, already outside the interpretations of the Soviet era. For Kobalev, this is his third engagement with Gorky, having previously staged "The Last Ones" and "The Dacha People." The heroes of the play "At the Bottom" are people who have lost everything and have sunk to the depths, into whose company the wanderer Luka enters. His actions awaken in the other characters a desire to live, and they begin to change. The play touches on questions of love and death, truth and lies, work and refusal of it, the search for oneself and support in life.
