The white mathematically precise world of the One State, the dark unknown space of the human soul, and their mutual penetration. Evgeny Zamyatin wrote his anti-utopian novel back in 1920. But for the first time, this work of the great prose writer, which has now entered the collection "The Ten Best Novels of the 20th Century", is staged in the format of puppet theater at BPT. The idea of this production was inspired for director Ruslan Kudashov by the etudes played by student puppeteers with gapits. This is the name given to rod puppets, which represent the "skeletons" of puppets and are used as a kind of teaching aid for puppeteering. The fact is that gapits, which have no face or individuality, are ideally suited to embody on stage the homogeneous, identical, faceless "we". These are the citizens of Zamyatin's One State. But how does a unique soul feel in a body with completely leveled personal characteristics? Using gapit puppets, the author of the production addresses the irrational depths of the human inner world, trying to answer the question: what forces make a tender sprout break through the road concrete, why does the soul break the geometrically precise and absolutely happy world of the main character of the narrative? The play is quite large in format. The script specifies a total of 20 characters. Accordingly, 20 puppeteers and their charges perform on stage.
