A play that has grown alongside the theater - one of the oldest and most successful productions of Lev Dodin's troupe. The premiere of "Mumu" at MDT took place in 1984 - the story of this production is inextricably linked to the history of the theater itself. The actors who worked on the play as students became the leaders of the troupe, but still play old, episodic roles in it. The dog Yuta, who performed for 13 years, has retired and "passed the baton" to the lovely mutt Romashka. Nevertheless, the stage composition by the Filshinsky duo is interesting to the audience and does not yield in expressiveness to modern productions. "Mumu" is not just an adaptation of the classic Turgenev story. In two parts of this lively, equally comedic and tragic play, the image of a Russian home and Russian life is authentically recreated. Ordered chaos, the drunken madness of the gentry, and the ritual dances of the servants - all this is depicted in the production sharply, openly, with broad, juicy strokes. The beauty of nature, its harmony and strength, is equally authentically embodied, in contrast to which human fuss appears in all its baseness.
