There is no literal depiction of rural life or illustrative "Russian nature" - instead, the audience is offered an emotional and metaphorical space. The main character is a girl named Masha, the granddaughter of an actor, who accidentally finds herself in the theater. It is through her perception that the story unfolds, intertwining childhood imagination, theatrical play, and familiar motifs from Turgenev's work. The production reflects on love for people and theater, which sometimes contradict each other. In 2018, the Association of Theater Critics recognized the mask comedy as the "Play of the Year."
