A rarely staged play by Alexei Arbuzov is infused with tones of absurdism and naive belief that kindness will save the world. The main character of the play is Vasya Listikov, an absolutely kind and cheerful person. However, everyone around him shamelessly takes advantage of his kindness. There is infidelity from his wife, betrayal from his best friend, and his father's unwillingness to accept Vasya when he is thrown out of his own apartment. Director Philip Gurevich intentionally amplifies the inherent absurdism of the play and translates it from a Soviet dimension to a timeless one. According to the director, if such a character as Listikov were to meet in real life, he could be incredibly irritating. But isn't he right?
