An original stage version of the farcical ballet by Jean-Baptiste Molière directed by the legendary director Silviu Purcarete. "The Imaginary Invalid" is a play created specifically for the Evgeny Vakhtangov Theatre by the legend of European theatre Silviu Purcarete. The director, who has productions for leading world theatres to his credit, founder of the famous Limoges Theatre Academy, is known for his unconventional interpretation of classics - from Aeschylus to Boccaccio, Shakespeare, and Molière. In collaboration with the Vakhtangov Theatre, Purcarete brought to life one of the most unusual texts by Jean-Baptiste Molière - a ballet created in collaboration with Marc-Antoine Charpentier. "The Imaginary Invalid" is a bold experiment in which the iconic comic playwright combined the traditions of French farce and Italian commedia dell'arte. The paradoxical combination of everyday genre scenes and elegant interludes emphasized the bright comedic character of the play, the success of which was truly astounding. "The Imaginary Invalid" also became the last triumph of the brilliant Molière - during the fourth performance of the comedy, the playwright, who played the role of Argan, died right on stage.
