World-renowned director Robert Lepage has staged a play based on Bulgakov's novel. The director has realized a grand idea of a very technically complex performance with incredible transformer costumes and special effects. The story of Master and Margarita combines many genres: a love story, political and social satire, fantasy, and a philosophical parable. Lepage aimed to reflect all of this in his production, for which he needed to abandon traditional narrative codes and invent something new. More than a hundred costumes were created for 13 performing actors. Instant costume changes allow actors, and together with them the audience, to quickly move between eras and spaces: 1930s Moscow, biblical events, and the ball at Woland's. The main technique of the scenography will be the illusion technique "Pepper's ghost," where objects appear and disappear, overlap with each other, and transform into one another.
