A new stage version of the cult novel by Mikhail Bulgakov directed by Sergey Zhenovach. "Master and Margarita" is the second production in which the "Theater Art Studio" turns to the works of Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov. After bringing "Notes of a Dead Man" to the stage, the theater began working on the most famous and, perhaps, the most complex work of the writer. Bulgakov's cult novel is a dangerous text for staging. It is a story that unfolds in several dimensions of space and time, which impresses both with its scale and with the depth of judgments on complex existential questions. Besides formal reasons, working on "Master and Margarita" is considered risky due to theatrical superstitions and legends. It is believed that people involved in the adaptations of one of the most mystical works of world literature are under threat, as the novel touches on forbidden themes in our world. However, in his production, director Sergey Zhenovach will not focus on the supernatural and the otherworldly. The key for him is the love story, which will be at the center of the original stage version based on the great novel. You can find more plays on our website in the theater section.
