About

The premiere production based on the famous fairy tale combines adventure, stage play, and a gentle conversation about honesty, courage, and the ability to see oneself without self-deception. There are dangers, true friendship, and a magical world of crooked mirrors, while the English language with translation adds a new sound and special theatrical rhythm to the familiar story. The production addresses a well-known fairy tale that does not lose its power precisely because it speaks to the young audience about understandable and important things. At the center of the plot is a girl named Olya, who finds herself in the land of crooked mirrors, where everything is distorted: appearance, perceptions of truth, and the habit of seeing oneself and others as they are. The fairy tale form makes this story captivating, but behind the adventure lies a clear thought about how easily a person gets used to convenient untruths and how important it is to look at oneself honestly at least once. For the young audience, the play is interesting primarily due to its dynamics. The story features dangerous trials, evil and deceitful inhabitants of the kingdom, Gurd imprisoned in the Tower of Death, and the journey the heroes must undertake to help a friend and not lose their courage. Such dramaturgy effectively holds attention: it contains both anxiety and movement, and a sense of a real fairy tale journey. At the same time, the plot works not only as entertainment. It leads to a conversation about friendship, loyalty, inner honesty, and the ability to notice one's own shortcomings without moralizing. A separate merit of the production is its linguistic solution. The play is performed in English with Russian translation, making it particularly intriguing for family audiences. This format adds freshness to the action and can serve as a gentle way for children to hear a foreign language in a live theatrical context. Here, the educational element is naturally integrated: it does not distract from the fairy tale but expands the impression of it. The production involves the Theater Studio "Scene" and the "Kaleidoscope" theater, and is led by PhD in Education Irina Maziya.
