A touching story of an old gelding based on a tale by Leo Tolstoy. Before the audience unfolds a picture of a green meadow where a herd of horses grazes. Among them stands out an elderly, thoughtful gelding. He is patient and sad, quietly waiting for his old master named Nester. Together with him, the gelding goes to drink. The master removes the saddle from the gelding, scratches his mane, and strokes his head. Suddenly, Nester strikes the horse's leg with a metal buckle with all his might. Kholstomer does not understand why he is being punished, but remains submissive. Everyone mocks the old Kholstomer. The youngsters tease, push, and muddy the clear water so that the gelding cannot drink. The horse forgives all the tormentors. His soul is pure and silent. The herd despises the old gelding. Under the cover of night, in the pen, the horses kick Kholstomer. The horse suffers. Unable to bear the humiliation, he stops resisting and asks to be heard about his life story. The heart-wrenching tale of the gelding lasts several nights, after which the herd begins to understand its mistake. Kholstomer shares with the horses the secrets of his birth. He tells them about love, hatred, and betrayal. The ending of the performance is tragic, but therein lies the philosophical answer to the mystery of life and death.
