The legendary play of the Youth Theater, which left the stage at the end of 2021, has returned updated. The audience awaits the beloved story of Maria Kosareva in the previous scenery, but with a new cast of actors. Directors do not pamper "Killer Whale" by Alexei Tolstoy with interpretations. However, it is very loved by the theater on Fontanka. The success of the play was brought by a strong cast, the meticulous work of director Semyon Spivak, who loves to endow his characters with positive qualities, and, of course, the very theme of the play - love. The play ran for 22 years with full houses, and it became a tradition to open the season with it. In 2023, the play returned to the stage in its original directorial and artistic solution, but with a completely updated cast. "Killer Whale" is the nickname of the heroine of the play, Maria Kosareva. In the past, she shone in the limelight, was a pop prima donna. And now she is bored in a tastelessly furnished hotel room in the company of similar sky-choking companions - Prince Belsky, who lives at her expense, and the second freeloader Abram Zheltukhin. It is smoky around, there are empty bottles on the floor, leftovers of food. A card table. And no glimmer of hope, only the fear of perishing in the meaninglessness and insignificance of existence. The deplorable situation forces them to leave the rooms. The only salvation is to go to the village, to the prince Belsky's aunt. "There, the rooms smell of sage," recalls the prince. The trio gathers and goes to the village, to nature, to apple trees, flowers, and barefoot girls. There, the souls of the characters are reborn, they bloom like those very apple trees, discover new feelings, find themselves and love... Tender, shy, late, and unexpected love. Love that engulfs everything else, leaving immeasurable happiness behind. You can find even more plays in Saint Petersburg on our website in the theater section.
