At the Second Stage of BDT named after Tovstonogov, a production based on the play by the controversial Irish playwright Martin McDonagh is presented. The Russian audience is most familiar with two works by Martin McDonagh: the recently released film "Seven Psychopaths" based on his screenplay and the play "The Pillowman" staged at the new stage of Alexandrinka. The characters in the Irish playwright's plays are unbalanced, lacking the concept of morality accepted in human society, and the perception of the acting characters often evokes a repulsive feeling. To be frank, this production does not represent something radically different. The play "The Cripple of Inishmaan" tells the story of the life and everyday life of the simple Irish people - fishermen living on the island. The play reveals both the cruelty and inhumanity of the characters and glimpses something human and understandable. The production "The Cripple of Inishmaan" is a conversation about the fact that human nature is not fully understood, and no one can definitively say what traits it possesses. This is a question, rather, from the realm of metaphysics. The play only slightly opens one of the mysterious curtains, behind which there is a certain chain of thoughts that the actors will lead the audience through. The Irish history features folk songs and melodies, as well as compositions by contemporary musicians - The Chieftains, Sinead O’Connor, John Whelan & Friends. The duration of the play is 3 hours.
