A new interpretation of Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky's play by one of Russia's leading directors, Andrei Moguchy. For the first time in the hundred-year history of the BDT, Ostrovsky's "The Storm" is being performed here. The creators of the production turned to the archaic Russian theater that preceded Stanislavsky. This approach allowed for new facets of the famous play to be revealed. The actors play intelligently and subtly in the theater of Ostrovsky's era, addressing the audience directly - emotionally and with an open feeling. The melodiousness of the author's language is enhanced by a special speech and the rhythm of recitative. Composer Alexander Manotskov managed to organically combine the play with sounds. Director Andrei Moguchy immerses himself in theater beyond mere depiction, thus creating a mystery. It turned out to be a kind of life of Katerina and other Kalinovites, told in a "Palekh" stage space. The black decorations by Vera Martynov helped to embody this dark realm, a frightening tale.
