About

A highly relevant version of "Hamlet" as envisioned by director Valery Fokin. The play based on William Shakespeare's "Hamlet" is an integral part of the repertoire of many theaters. The prince's tragedy has the remarkable ability to become relevant in different historical times and adapt to their cultural realities. Fokin's "Hamlet" is perhaps the most radical of the recent productions of "Hamlet." There is little left of the classic Shakespearean production. The time of action is moved to the present day, and the plot undergoes significant metamorphoses. The setting of the play is a football stadium. The audience sees the "backs" of Danish football fans silently observing what is happening, and they themselves become part of the football stands. With the change of the plot, the issues of the play also change. The Shakespearean conflict - "To be or not to be?" - becomes a conflict between Hamlet the prince and Hamlet the man. The focus shifts from revealing the main character's inner experiences to demonstrating the dark side of power that sows death and destruction. Fokin's Hamlet is nervous, passive, and apathetic. He finds himself caught up in court intrigues and realizes this too late. We see a man who struggles against the system and ultimately suffers defeat.
