The play based on the novella by the classic of magical realism Gabriel Garcia Marquez has joined the repertoire of the new stage of BDT. "An incredible and sad story about the simple-hearted Erendira and her heartless grandmother" first appeared in the novel "One Hundred Years of Solitude," and a few years later became an independent work. Carelessly leaving a candle burning, 14-year-old Erendira completely burned down the luxurious house where she lived with her grandmother, and now the latter, taking with her the remnants of past grandeur - charred Persian carpets and a surviving alabaster angel, sets off on a long journey through the desert to trade her granddaughter's body in atonement for a debt. While obedient Erendira serves soldiers, postmen, and smugglers in a tent, the merciless grandmother sits on a throne counting the proceeds: as is often the case with Marquez, fantastic imagery coexists with extraordinary cruelty. His "Erendira" is both a parable about violence and freedom and a critique of corrupt power. Under the patronage of Andrei Moguchy, the debut director Fyodor Lavrov - an actor at BDT and the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater, known for numerous roles in films and series (most recently - "Thaw" by Todorovsky and "A Brief Course in a Happy Life" by Germanika) worked on the play at the Kamenny Ostrov Theater. Lavrov turns "Erendira" into a musical-dramatic performance inspired by Latin American folklore and designed in the style of naive Mexican illustrated postcards. But the most interesting aspect promises to be the casting decision: the powerful and regal grandmother will be played by Nina Usatova. The duration of the performance is 1 hour and 20 minutes.
