A tragicomedy by Yuri Ioffe based on a play by Anton Chekhov. "Uncle Vanya" is the only play by Chekhov that has not been staged at the Mayakovsky Theatre before. In general, Chekhov appears here rarely. The play by Yuri Ioffe takes place in the Small Hall, where the torments of Chekhov's characters occur in close proximity to the audience. According to the director, this performance requires the actors to understand the genre's complexity. The tragic must be conveyed not through dramatic strain, but through Chekhov's laughter, expressed in an intimate theatrical space.
