The new play by Alexey Rybinikov is created in the genre of "total theater." It combines symphonism and rock, theater and cinema, and the plot is based on the story of Joaquin Murieta - the Mexican Robin Hood of the "gold rush" era. The premiere of the play is timed to coincide with two anniversary dates: the 50th anniversary of the first Soviet rock opera "The Star and Death of Joaquin Murieta" and the 80th anniversary of the outstanding composer, living classic Alexey Rybinikov. Rybinikov's rock opera "The Star and Death of Joaquin Murieta" based on the play by Pavel Grushko became a musical revolution in the USSR. The double album of its recording broke all sales records. But the story did not end there. In 2014, Rybinikov wrote a new version of the opera with lyrics by Yuliy Kim, and in 2015 he began filming his debut movie "Spirit of Sonora." Sonora is a Mexican state where the legendary Joaquin Murieta was born. The material from the film became the basis for the play of the same name, which will be shown at the Center for Performing Arts. The audience of the premiere will be transported 170 years back and immersed in the exciting events unfolding on another continent. The central theme of the play is the bright love story of Joaquin and Rosita, while opposing it is the theme of mysticism and rock in the guise of Diablero, a character from Mexican folklore. The production uses all the advanced technical means of the venue, and the rich visual design and unexpected interplay of live and inanimate elements make the performance as cinematic as possible. The music is performed by a rock band, to which characters from the film join with vocal parts as the action unfolds. The premiere shows will be personally presented by Alexey Rybinikov.
