About

The third production created by director Mikhail Patlasov for the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater is a play in which the idealistic story by Arkady Gaidar is combined with documentary evidence from the Stalin era. "Chuk and Gek" is the first premiere of the season at the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater, created by Mikhail Patlasov. This production will be the third work that the director presents at the experimental venue, following the documentary "Noise" and "Torkin" based on the poems of Tvardovsky. Patlasov's new work is an attempt to compare history and literature, the idealistic image of a communist paradise, and the reality far from the ideal. The central image of the production is a classic of socialist realism, the story by Arkady Gaidar "Chuk and Gek". The textbook text is supplemented by excerpts from the writer's diaries, as well as fragments from interviews with former prisoners of Stalin's camps, which were recorded by the playwrights of the production, Alina Shklyarskaya and Andrey Sovlachkov. The production, traditionally for Patlasov, will be complemented by complex scenography, as well as video and sound art.
