About

A play based on the book by Belgian psychotherapist François Emmanuel, directed by Alexey Astakhov. The plot of the play revolves around the pressing issue of the global financial crisis of 2008. Our contemporary François Emmanuel, a trained psychotherapist who currently has an extensive private practice, creates his literary works in his spare time. His successes in writing as a hobby are impressive. He is the author of bestselling novels such as "Obsidian Night," "The Melancholic Killer," and "The Neighboring Room." He is also the author of numerous short stories and poems translated into several European languages. The action of the play, directed by Alexey Astakhov, takes place in modern times. In one of the large corporations, preparations are underway for employee layoffs. At the center is the company's psychologist. He coldly selected employees for dismissal. The main criteria were age and adaptability. The specialist performs the task from a strictly pragmatic standpoint. However, faced with another assignment to assess the psychological health of the company's director, the psychologist, unwittingly influenced by his conversation with an elderly man who spent some time in a Nazi children's home called Lebensborn, changes his utilitarian attitude towards people. Horrified, the psychologist realizes that his methods for selecting candidates for dismissal are akin to those used by the Nazis to exterminate "unfit" citizens of Poland and the Soviet Union. The process of changing the main character's views unfolds before the audience's eyes. The premiere of the play took place on May 15, 2013. The cast includes actors V. Seleznev, P. Semak, N. Akimova, A. Rostovsky, I. Ivanov, I. Tichinina, and A. Zubarev. For more plays in St. Petersburg, visit our website in the theater section.
